I did my undergraduate training in physiotherapy at the University of Iceland which I finished in 2003. After working five years in clinical practice, where I mainly worked with sports-related MSK problems, I felt I needed to upgrade my skills. This was mainly driven by my lack of understanding of how some of my patients got better whereas others with similar problems did not. I therefore enrolled in the postgraduate program in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at Curtin University, Perth Australia which I finished in 2008. After my stay in Australia, I went to Norway where I enrolled in the clinical training program for Manual Therapists. I learned a lot that year as I had a clinical placement together with 3 other physiotherapists who also had got their postgraduate training in Australia. We worked very well together and shared ideas, discussed patient cases and thereby further developed our clinical reasoning skills alongside with our manual skills.
Short after finishing my stay in Norway, I was offered a PhD position at the Department of Health Science and Technology, Aalborg University. The focus of my PhD was to further understand the mechanisms underlying Sacroiliac Joint pain. I finished my PhD degree in 2014 and have since then worked at the University with a split role between research and teaching within health sciences. Alongside my work in academia, I work in my own clinic a few afternoons a week where I mainly see people suffering from complicated musculoskeletal problems.
