Rachael McMillan
Dr Rachael McMillan is a clinician researcher, working as a physiotherapist (PhD) in urgent care and Emergency Department settings at Barwon Health, and as an academic in the School of Medicine at Deakin University. Dr McMillan’s PhD investigated gluteal tendon and muscle adaptations in active populations and those with pain, including a collaborative project with the Australian Ballet. Rachael led the first randomised clinical trial (Cowan et al. 2022) to investigate menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) and exercise as interventions for postmenopausal women with greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS)/gluteal tendinopathy, which has positively influenced clinical practice worldwide. Rachael has worked as a physiotherapist with professional and elite sporting organisations, including Football Australia (Australian National Women’s Teams), Melbourne Victory FC Women and Heart of Midlothian FC Academy (Edinburgh UK).
