Matthew Walmsley

Matt has been a Chartered Physiotherapist since 2005, with over 20 years’ experience across the NHS, private practice and professional sport, including work within professional rugby and football.

He holds an MSc in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation (2013) and has undertaken extensive postgraduate training throughout his career. He has a particular interest in shoulder and upper-limb conditions and has held senior clinical and leadership roles within the Shoulder & Elbow service at Bradford Teaching Hospitals since 2015.

In 2020, Matt became an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in upper-limb orthopaedics, working closely with orthopaedic consultants and other medical specialists. His role includes advanced assessment, clinical decision-making, diagnosis, imaging and management of complex musculoskeletal conditions.

Matt has also worked within Acute MSK services for around seven years, developing a strong interest in early diagnosis, clinical reasoning and improving patient pathways.

Alongside his clinical work, Matt is passionate about education. He runs Physio Off The Cuff, an educational platform across Instagram and LinkedIn, and is Commercial Director of Simply MSK Ltd, an MSK education company. His teaching focuses on practical assessment, clinical reasoning and evidence-based management.

Matt is also involved in service development and innovation, including waiting-list transformation, patient education and the development of point-of-care ultrasound within MSK services.

His overall approach is centred on combining clinical expertise, evidence-based practice and strong clinical reasoning to improve patient care and develop better MSK services.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, football, golf and travelling.
