Ellie Richardson

Ellie is a practicing Clinical Shoulder Specialist with over 17 years clinical experience gained across a variety of MSK, orthopaedic & sporting setting (including the NHS, private practice, TASS networks, University sports scholarship programmes, and as a consultant for numerous NGBs & sports clubs). Her clinical experience spans everything from atraumatic & traumatic shoulder injuries, post op rehabilitation through to performance screening/return to play testing & everything in-between! She graduated with a first-class B.Sc. (Hons) Degree in Physiotherapy, holds a post graduate diploma in orthopaedic medicine & an MSc with distinction in Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Practice. She is also an associate member of the UKSCA and is working towards her full accreditation.

On top of her clinical caseload, Ellie is an active member of the British Shoulder & Elbow Society (BESS) & the Northwest Upper Limb Group & works closely with many leading consultant surgeons. Ellie’s academic CV includes publishing as lead author in The BMJ Sports and Exercise Medicine on the role of the kinetic chain in shoulder rehabilitation, co-authoring & participating in an international consensus Delphi study on the same topic, co-authoring the ShoulderDoc “Shoulder Rehabilitation” online e-book and contributing to the recently published “The Shoulder Theory and Practice” textbook by Lewis and Fernandez.

Ellie is also passionate about teaching & has been invited to lecture at numerous specialist conferences including The British Mountaineering & Climbing’s annual injury symposium, The British Shoulder & Elbow Society’s annual scientific conferences, Therapy Live’s virtual annual event, the North West Education Academy conferences, Liverpool Hope’s International biennial Shoulder Rehabilitation conference & the annual London Shoulder Study Day. 

Ellie is also a former elite athlete who has represented Scotland, Great Britain and Spanish Trade teams in track cycling at numerous international events including the Commonwealth Games, the European Track Cycling Championships & the Track Cycling World Cup. Her insight and experience as a dual career athlete, alongside her extensive professional portfolio, gives insight into her genuine passion for wanting to help people participate in their chosen sport/activity to maximum effect & with minimal setbacks.
